How the Rollaway Nesting Box Works

When a hen lays an egg, the gently sloped nesting floor allows it to roll away from the laying area and into the covered collection compartment.

This simple movement protects the egg from being scratched, stepped on or pecked. It can also help discourage hens that have developed, or are beginning to develop, an interest in eating their own eggs.

For the best results, use only a light layer of suitable nesting material so the eggs can roll freely into the collection tray.

External Installation

The nesting box is designed to fit through an appropriately sized opening in the coop wall, with the laying compartment accessible from inside and the covered egg-collection area positioned outside.

Install the box securely in a quiet, shaded and weather-protected position. Make sure it is stable and correctly aligned so eggs can roll smoothly without gathering too much speed.

Cleaning and Care

Remove the plastic tray and wash it using warm water and a mild, animal-safe cleaner. Allow it to dry completely before returning it to the nesting box.

Wipe the zinc-plated steel panels as required and dry them thoroughly to help protect the finish. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive scourers and pressure washing.
