Description
TGLB Triple Internal Rollaway Chicken Nesting Box
Keep eggs cleaner, protected and easier to collect with the TGLB Triple Internal Rollaway Chicken Nesting Box.
Designed for installation inside your chicken coop, this durable nesting box provides three separate laying compartments and is suitable for flocks of up to approximately 12 hens.
Each compartment features a gently sloped, ventilated plastic tray that allows freshly laid eggs to roll forward into a protected collection area. Moving the eggs away from the hens helps reduce dirty eggs, accidental breakages, pecking and egg-eating behaviour.
The three private nesting spaces allow several hens to lay at the same time, helping reduce crowding and queues around a favourite nest. Eggs can then be collected easily from the front without reaching underneath your hens.
Nest Box legs available to make your nesting boxes freestanding (no wall mounting!) are available here.

How Does the Rollaway Nesting Box Work?
When a hen lays an egg, the gently sloped base allows it to roll forward and into the protected collection area.
Once the egg moves away from the main laying space, the hen can no longer sit on, stand on or easily peck it. This helps keep eggs cleaner and reduces the likelihood of damage before collection.
For the rollaway system to work correctly, the box must be assembled and positioned according to the supplied instructions. Loose bedding should not obstruct the path between the laying area and collection tray.
Where Should I Position the Nesting Box?
Choose a quiet, shaded and sheltered location inside the chicken coop. Hens generally prefer to lay in a private area away from excessive light, noise and regular foot traffic.
Position the nesting box:
- Inside a dry, sheltered coop
- Below the height of the roosting perches
- Away from food and water
- Away from the main coop entrance where possible
- On or against a strong, stable surface
- Where you can access the front collection trays easily
Keeping the nesting box below roost height helps discourage hens from sleeping inside it overnight, which can reduce droppings and keep the nesting compartments cleaner.
Assembly and Installation
The TGLB Triple Internal Rollaway Nesting Box is supplied flat-packed and requires assembly.
1. Assemble the Steel Frame
Assemble the zinc-plated steel panels and dividers on a clean, level surface, following the supplied instructions.
2. Attach the Roof
Secure the steel roof and check that the completed frame is stable and properly aligned.
3. Install the Trays
Place the three ventilated plastic rollaway trays into their correct positions. Check that they sit properly and that eggs have an unobstructed path to the collection area.
4. Position the Nesting Box
Install the nesting box securely in a quiet section of the coop. Keep it raised away from damp ground and make sure it cannot move or tip when hens enter and leave.
5. Introduce Your Hens
Allow your hens time to investigate their new nesting box. Some hens will begin using it immediately, while others may need several days to become comfortable.
Fake eggs can be placed in the compartments temporarily to encourage hens to recognise them as suitable laying spaces.
Helping Hens Adjust to Their New Nesting Box
Chickens can be particular about where they lay, especially if they have already developed a favourite nesting location.
To encourage them to use the new box:
- Place it in a quiet and shaded area
- Keep it below the roosting perches
- Make sure it is stable and easy to enter
- Place a clean fake egg in each compartment
- Block access to unwanted laying locations where practical
- Keep the nesting areas clean and inviting
- Allow several days for the flock to become familiar with it
Even with three compartments available, some hens may still insist on waiting for the same favourite nest. This is normal chicken behaviour.
Bedding and Nesting Liners
Avoid filling the trays with loose bedding, as excessive material may prevent eggs from rolling freely into the collection area.
If using a nesting liner, make sure it is designed for rollaway nesting boxes and does not obstruct the egg’s path. Check the trays regularly for feathers, bedding or other debris.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Regular cleaning helps keep the nesting box hygienic and allows the rollaway system to operate correctly.
To clean the nesting box:
- Remove the three plastic trays.
- Wash them with warm, soapy water or a mild poultry-safe cleaner.
- Rinse thoroughly.
- Allow the trays to dry completely.
- Wipe down the zinc-plated steel panels.
- Remove feathers, dust and debris from the collection areas.
- Return the dry trays to the nesting box.
Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive scouring pads and pressure washing. Dry the steel surfaces thoroughly after cleaning to help protect the zinc-plated finish.
